Dear brothers and sisters and friends of GMC,
I tell you only when you are really in touch with the poor and needy, you see how much they need God in the person of Jesus and how much they need love from you and me.
In the last 10 years, God seems to give me greater and greater burden for the indigenous people of Sarawak, though my burden for the Chinese is not less. The more I serve them, the more Jesus is telling me more about them. I spent last Friday to Sunday in Kuching just to conduct 2 seminars on parenting and husband and wife relationship in BM on Friday and Saturday nights. Each night there was about 60 to 70 persons coming and about 20 persons came forward to be ministered. On Sunday, I preached with lots of tears in challenging, inspiring and encouraging more brothers and sisters of the Mandarin congregation (during Indigenous People Sunday) to come forward to help the 60-70 strong BM congregation. My sermon was on “The Love for the lost souls”. I preached once in the morning in Mandarin and once at night in BM. I emphasized to them that the indigenous people who were living near their house were very lost and they needed Christ.
In the afternoon, though there were only about 12 adults, I preached to them in mandarin on the need to send missionaries outside Kuching. Again I preached with tears, appealing to them not to be inward looking. The church is for the sinners, we need to bring sinners into the church and kingdom of God.
The Church struggle a lot as they have no full time BM pastor. However, praise the Lord, the church has the vision to reach out to the indigenous people. They have great shortage of manpower to do Sunday School and youth ministry. One Form one girl whom I counseled cried and could not tell me the reason for absenteeism. After much interpretation, I told her that she was sad. She confessed so and explained that she and her mother and siblings were being chased out of the house in Sibu by the father. Another Form 4 girl who does not have the father in the family did 2 times of abortion. One bomoh came to the church and he was considering to accept Christ. Most of them stayed as squatters with no proper water and electricity supply. I visited for 3 solid hours and God spoke loud and clear to me. I need to mobilize the Chinese to make disciples among these poor people. Their situation is very similar with our Tudan church members, if not more serious than us.
Again, their response to the gospel is good and indeed the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Let us pray for the workers to go forth to harvest.
God bless.
A faithful disciple of Jesus,
Pastor Law Hui Seng
