Dear brothers and sisters and friends of GMC,

Praise the Lord the Tudan Methodist Church, the first BM Methodist Church in Sarawak is near completion. I just her 4 hours ago. Now, we only some parts, a few doors not fixed yet and electricity is not supplied. Rev Chan Jing Mei said that they would move in by the end of April. I pray that when they move in, the church would be packed with the indigenous people nearby the church. It must truly become a community church. Many of them who have bad habits would be transformed to follow Jesus.

I visited 3 small groups last week. I received a feedback from one group that I need to preach to show people how build up a personal relationship with Jesus. I appreciated it very much.

Also, I will be going to Sibu for a long house forum on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please pray that we will find a good solution for the long house need of more full time workers. Pray that we will have very fruitful results in terms of the content for the MOU with Sarawak Iban Annual Conference.

Dear brothers and sisters of GMC and friends,

I thank God I can write to you again. I was so busy in the last few weeks I did not have time to sit down and write a few words like this.

Praise the Lord the visit with Bishop Hwa Yung (1st and 2nd Feb) was very fruitful. I thank God I went. The 4 missionaries under the leadership of sister Ting Sung Ngo had very important things to convey to me. Now, we decide to sponsor 40 litres of petrol every month each mission team goes to Long Singu. We also decide to buy fruits for our missionaries. They kept appealing for a driver. I believe the need is there but we need to pray that a brother and his wife would make sacrifice to go in.

The English churches forum held in Sibu, 26th to 27th Feb was very fruitful. The president, Rev Dr Su in his closing ceremony gave us a vision of an English District and eventually works towards an English Annual Conference. Also, one for the most exciting change is we are coming up with English Lay Preacher’s course. I pray that we will have 5 persons coming forward to do it.

Yesterday we had a zone leaders and and committee meeting. I praise God for the commitment of brother Ngu Hieng King and brother Alex Tiang. They took the trouble to visit the small groups under their care.

Please pray for my family that as we do the character training every Monday, we will be more Christ-like.

Dear brothers and sisters of GMC and friends,

Praise the Lord I find time to write to you again.

Today I preached on facebook and at least 85% of my morning and evening congregations have facebooks. I pray that my sermon has inspired them to put their testimonies in their facebooks and they will attract lots of curiosity and many questions will be asked. Then, they will answer the questions and preach the gsopel of salvation in Christ.

Praise the Lord we have done our briefing for Disciple 1, 2 and 4 today. Altogether 40 persons have signed up. It is an exciting ministry where we expect lots of life transformation. Also, I strongly believe that at the end of the day, we produce stronger disciples for Jesus.

Tomorrow I am joining Bishop Hwa Yung at Ulu Belaga to facilitate the observation process by the senor pastor, Razak, and Rev Bernard from West Malaysia. I will be back on Tuesday afternoon. Please pray for journey mercy and fruitful trip. I also bring along a potential missionary to Ulu Belaga in the person of sister Wong Mee Ching, in her early 50s. Pray that she will make up her to be a missionary there.

Dear brothers and sisters of GMC,

I have announced to GMC Local Conference today that this is my final year in GMC. I shall treasure my ministry with everyone in GMC. I praise the Lord and thank Him for empowering me to serve in this church for the 9the year.

One of the greatest lesson I learn in GMC is learning to work together as a team. How to mobilize them to work together as a team. If only we work together as a team, we can become so powerful for Christ.

The greatest joy I experienced in GMC is keep seeing many brothers and sisters in GMC coming to become stronger and more matured disciples of Jesus. I see how they overcome issues in life and stand up and serve God.

I pray that at the end of my 9 years,in the power of the Holy Spirit, I will be able to pass over a strong, and united GMC to my successor.

Dear brothers and sisters of GMC and friends,

Have you begun your new year resolutions? I pray that you do. I have begun to cut down on my rice. Also, on a cup of coffee and some biscuit before I go to sleep has been cut down. I also begin to discipline myself to read the BM bible everyday.

I have assigned by Methodist Theological School to give training on evangelism in Sibu. Praise the Lord this year we have 12 students. This coming week I am going the second time and I will meet them the third time on 20th Jan. I pray that after the class and practical to do evangelism in the street, they will preach the gospel.

Praise the Lord the new MJYF committee has been elected on Sunday. I am excited to look forward to working with the new committee and advisors and make a difference for Jesus.

Dear GMC brothers and sisters and friends,

Praise the Lord we all have the privilege to enter year 2010. It is a great privilege for me to be able to serve in GMC again. I look forward to a very exciting year in Miri.

One of the most exciting thing to do is the disciple making ministry in Pujut Primary School, opposite our Church. It is really God answered prayer that we can do the BB and GB ministry there. We are now free to do recruitment for primary 4, 5 and 6. Please pray that our teacher in charge Fong Lu will have the support of other Christian teachers to help in the recruitment. We will start our first meeting on 20th Jan, Wednesday, 2.30-3.30pm. Also pray that we will have enough main power to help in the 2 ministries. At the moment we do have candidates whom we want to recruit but they need to show up when the time comes.

My new year resolutions are: a. To reduce my weight by 3 kg through half an hour of jogging and sit up and push up. b. To read the bible everyday in BM or Bahasa Indonesia c. To pass the entrance examination for my Master of Theology in 2011.

May Jesus empower you to live a life of discipleship in 2010.

Dear brothers and sisters and friends of GMC,

Christmas with a difference
Praise the Lord for GMC brothers and sisters are able to identify at least 7 poor families for us to bless them with hampers. We need to visit them and sing carols and pass them the presents. This year, this is Christmas with a difference. Let us pray that as all Methodist churches start to do this ministry, it will become a movement. Also, we need to pray that those whom Methodist churches visited, they will come to know Jesus and be saved.

Jakarta Trip
My trip to Jakarta (14th to 18th Dec) is full of learning and great reflection. Indonesia is made up of over 200 million population. It is the largest muslim country in the world. Christian population is estimated to be 20%. There are 5% Chinese. There are hundreds of tribal groups. The Batak tribal group has been exposed to the gospel for 130 years. Lots of Methodist churches (more than 160) are made up of Batak Christians run by Batak pastors. They are using Indonesian language to worship God. It is a language quite similar to our Malay language. This really inspires me to further work on our BM ministry.


I find that Batak peoples have similar cultural and social problems as the indigenous people of Sarawak. However, may be because of a longer period of evangelization and christian nurture, Batak Christians are now more matured.

Bishop Amat (one of the 2 bishops of the Methodist Church) is heading a big General Conference of over 160 churches with 5 district superintendants and about 150 pastors. He shared with us the urgent need for us to send mandarin speaking pastors and missionaries to Indonesia. Now, they can conduct services in Mandarin and there is great vacuum that need to be filled. There are lots of Chinese but they face great shortage of mandarin speaking manpower!


We (Rev Dr Wong Kee Sing, the chairman of Sarawak Indigenous People Ministry; Brother John Ling, the SCAC missions board member and Board of Finance Chairman) also visited the Wesley Institute. It is actually a theological college with over 100 indigenous students. Lots of Korean missionaries and local indigenous lecturers working side by side to make disciples of all nations. I have to see the same picture in the Methodist Theological School in the near future. I hope in my life time, I will see that Chinese and indigenous people will be working side by side to run the BM theological department with one hundred students.

We visited a 3 language church (English, Tiong Hua and Indonesian), Immanuel. She is 40 years old but managed to plant over 20 big and small churches. Her congregation is about a few hundred persons. It started with one miracle. Dr Chiw, who is missions chairman of the church shared this very touching story. His sister who is now over 60 years old experienced miraculous healing from an unknown sickness which doctors and bomohs could not do anything when she was small. His cousin who was a christian just laid hand on her and prayed for healing. Then she dreamt of a while dressed person to come and heal her. She was healed and the whole family turned to Christ. This family served as the pioneering family of Immanuel Methodist. The church starts to develop from this family. What is interesting is that the sister acquired some kind of gift of prophecy. She was able to foretell future events. Family was tempted to ask her for 4 digits. She scolded them for the request and emphasized that Jesus would not give 4 digits! This testimony touched me very much and it inspires me to preach and present Jesus and live to be like Jesus.
